In 1986, Valrhona created the most bitter chocolate in the world, which immediately became a benchmark. Guanaja is made from a complex blend of aromatic profiles of cocoas typical of Trinidad, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Madagascar to create a unique taste. The name Guanaja echoes the first cocoa beans given to Christopher Columbus when he landed in 1502 on the island of Guanaja.
